We Have To Talk About Weed – A Documentary on Cannabis, Its Effects, and the Myths That Surround It

Another brilliant video from my favorite channel, Kurzgesagt.

According to scientific studies, marijuana is significantly less dangerous than alcohol – yet recent trends in decriminalization have created the impression that cannabis is completely risk-free.

First – it’s definitely not risk-free. And second, the risks are actually increasing.

One of the most striking moments in the video is a chart showing how THC content in cannabis products has skyrocketed over the past few decades. Personally, it feels like we’re “violating” the plant. Instead of humbly accepting it as it naturally grows under the sun, we blast it with high-powered grow lights to force absurd levels of THC, far beyond what’s naturally occurring.

And these high-THC strains are a big part of why cannabis use is becoming much more dangerous than it used to be.

But it’s not just about THC levels – even regular, frequent use of more moderate strains can lead to dependence. The video covers this thoroughly. As is typical with Kurzgesagt, the sources are beautifully organized and highly informative – check them out here:

I particularly recommend looking at Figure 2 – Drug harm comparison. Alcohol takes the top spot. Heroin only comes second…
